From Aunt Angie’s Kitchen #3 – Throwback Dish

A little throwback to a dish I shared a few years ago… ackee and saltfish with breadfruit.

If you’ve been following for a while, you may remember this from my 2019 post, The Jamaican Chronicles: Day Two. At the time, it was just a meal, a moment—something simple from Aunt Angie’s kitchen. But looking back now, it feels like so much more. ❤️

For those who may not know, ackee is a soft, buttery fruit (and is also Jamaica’s national fruit). It’s traditionally paired with saltfish (salted cod), creating that perfect balance of mild, creamy and savory flavors.

And the breadfruit? It can be roasted or fried—crispy on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside—and it completes the dish in the most comforting way.

Every flavor, every texture carried something I didn’t fully appreciate then—the care, the tradition, the quiet love that went into making it.

It’s funny how time changes your perspective. What once felt ordinary now feels like a piece of home.

And if you enjoy revisiting moments like this, feel free to explore The Jamaican Chronicles series. It’s still a work in progress, with more stories, memories, and meals to come. ❤
