A few years ago, I spent a beautiful early September day exploring Giuffrida Park in Meriden, Connecticut. I decided to take the blue trail, which winds its way up to the top of the ridge. The climb was steady, but the reward was well worth it—the views from the summit were absolutely stunning, stretching out over the rolling hills and surrounding forests.

Giuffrida Park itself is a local favorite, covering about 600 acres of woodlands, wetlands, and scenic ridges. The park features Long Pond, a popular spot for fishing and picnics, and a network of hiking trails that connect to the Mattabesett Trail, part of Connecticut’s Blue-Blazed Trail system.

What made the hike even more special was catching the very first signs of autumn. Some of the leaves had already begun to change, adding pops of red, orange and yellow to the late-summer green. It was the perfect transition between seasons, with warm sunshine, crisp air, and the promise of fall just around the corner.

Giuffrida Park is one of those hidden gems in Connecticut—peaceful, scenic, and perfect for a hike when you want both exercise and a bit of inspiration from nature.
Whether you’re looking for a peaceful walk around the pond or a challenging hike with sweeping views, Giuffrida Park has a little something for everyone. For me, that September hike will always stand out as a reminder of how beautiful Connecticut’s natural spaces can be.
