Exploring Connecticut: Walnut Beach

One of my favorite hobbies during the winter has been exploring the beaches of Connecticut. There’s something about walking along the boardwalk and breathing in the crisp winter air whilst staring out into the ocean that puts me at ease. Especially since around this time, everything is a bit glum as most of the leaves have already fallen and there aren’t enough evergreen trees to fill the void.

It’s also nice that its off season during this time and there is no admission/parking fee or crowds.

On this particular day, I visited Walnut Beach in Milford, Connecticut.

It wasn’t until after visiting that I learned it was once an amusement park. From what I found online, in 1923, an amusement park was built at Walnut Beach. This amusement park only lasted a few decades as a hurricane destroyed most of its rides. Since then, the area has undergone redevelopment and has remained as the beach that you see today.

I spent some time hanging out in the sand and birdwatching before walking on the boardwalk and heading over to Silver Sands State Park.
